Slice Out Hunger Pop-Up + It's Pickle Pizza Season + Pizza Documentary
Never a bad time to eat pizza for charity or even add pickles on your pizza.
Local Pizza Heroes Making Pizza for Charity
John McCaffrey is certainly one of the more talented pizza makers in the area. His Instagram is rife with photos of the most perfectly cooked pizzas I’ve ever seen. Whether he’s making pizza at Yellow Bridge Brewery or at his home, his pizza game is supremely on point.
Check out the leopard printing on some of his pizzas. You could make a designer hand bag out of that crust!
And now John is using his pizza powers for good. On August 8th at DV8 Expresso Bar in Greensburg you can buy one of his pizzas between the hours of 11-3pm.
If you can make the mid-day trip on a Tuesday, could be your chance to have a unique and delicious pizza.
Pickle Pizza Fest
Picklesburgh is back and bigger than ever. This year they’ve transferred the event off the narrow bridge to accommodate the hoards of brine enthusiasts coming into town for a variety of pickled snacks.
You may not have to go to Pickle Ground Zero to taste a food tinged with pickle. I also may have completely messed up because I assumed this pickled food promotion would go all through the weekend of the event, but it looks to have ended yesterday! Perhaps these venues will still be running some pickled pizza specials. Not like they’d toss the ingredients, right?
Not to be a complete Picklesburgh Hipster, but when I went to one of the first Picklesburghs in 2016 they had vendors like Pizza Boat cooking up fresh pizzas with a variety of pickled toppings. It was stunning! And the bridge was walkable!
This year a variety of restaurants downtown are offering pickled treats to get everyone hyped up for the main event. There’s a lot of pizza varieties on the list!
Pizzaiolo Primo - Sottaceto Pie (Pickle Pizza)
Sienna Mercato (Mezzo) - Pickle Pizza with Dill pickles, mozzarella, fontina, roasted garlic, fresh dill.
Sly Fox - Pickle Pizza.
Barcadia - Pickle Pizza consisting of homemade dough, ground beef, crispy bacon, pickle slices, pickle ranch drizzle.
If those places are no longer selling their special pickle pizza, you can always rely on Spak’s Pickle Pizza.
Making Pizza Personal with Dan Santoro
Adam Collier guy did a documentary about a pizza shop I never heard of in Castle Shannon, Santoro’s Pizzeria Italian, about a guy living his dream. He quit his job, cashed out his 401k to pursue the pizza dream. It’s a raw look at the life of a pizza shop owner. It’s a venture that completely consumes your life and this documentary captures the spirit of owning a pizza shop and how you have to fight for every dollar, fighting for every customer.
Good hodgepodge of pizza news this week. Pizza you can eat, some pizza you can plan to eat, and pizza you can watch. How cool!
